Brittany Burns is serving with PROPEL as part of an Americorps VISTA year. She holds a Bachelor’s in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic from Emory University, and a Master’s of Public Affairs from the University of Texas-Austin, where she specialized in positive youth development. Brittany is especially interested in the experiences of immigrant and refugee youth; she previously worked at Centro Astalli Sud, which runs an immigrant center just outside of Naples, Italy, and at Refugee Family Services in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Now living in Toledo, she splits her time between the administration of the PROPEL program and assisting with employment and anti-discrimination projects at ACCESS in Dearborn, where she eats way too much delicious Yemeni food.
